This historic Greek meyhane (tavern) is one of the oldest on Nevizade Sokak. Imroz is a favourite with mature and ageing locals - it's not unusual to find the odd old timer journalist or writer dining loudly here. Tanas Yalyas and Spiri Havuços opened the original Imroz in Krepen Pasaji on 1st February 1941 and have remained true to centuries-old customs. It moved to Nevizade in the 60s and has remained the most popular tavern on the street. Imroz is proof of how impressive a well-run establishment can be, so long as the management continue to draw on their experiences of the past. It's also the only restaurant on the street with a roof-top terrace.
Imroz was first opened in Kerpen Arcade - Balikpazari in 1941. Now it is located at Nevizade Sokak. The owner and partner Yorgo Okumus is still working. Lakerda (salt bonito), sauced bonito and tarama (made by spawn and bread) are the most famous ones among the 35 kinds of meze Imroz offers. It is open everyday until midnight. Reservation is accepted until 19:00. Terrace is open in summers.
